The burrowing owl (known scientifically as Athene cunicularia) is a long-legged owl found in grasslands, open range, deserts, or any other open dry areas. They live in burrows and often take over burrows from animals like prairie dogs. When I was in Denver you could see both coexisting. Despite being an owl – Burrowing Owls active during the day.
